In 1999 a young man was kicked, beaten, and killed at G. Ross Lord park in Toronto, Ontario Canada, this allegedly occurred over cigarettes. Dimitri “Matti” Baranovski’s death was another major incident of crime which caught my attention. In fact; their have been so many incidents which bombarded me, I had to ask the question, Why isn’t somebody doing something about this problem?
After many weeks of waking up to more incidents of crime, violence, bullying or terror, it dawned on me, why don’t I do something about these core issues. With incidents like Columbine, Taber, Dawson, École Polytechnique, and 9/11, all part of my developing research enough was really enough.
I recall vividly, like it was yesterday, being bullied in grades nine and ten at Applewood Heights S.S. in Mississauga, Ontario Canada, so much so that I moved o a different school T.L. Kennedy, for grades eleven and twelve.
To look at me today its hard to believe that I was ever bullied, Im a pretty big guy now. This said, crime, violence, bullying and terror take many forms, and occur today in many places, I believe its time we all got together to “Blow our whistles on the roots of crime”.
I took the time to research what was going on, I looked at best practice solutions, and then I looked at the extent of the problem, and found its huge! I designed my strategy around the problem, I surrounded the problem with solutions.
I found the biggest correlative issue we have is one of infrastructure; our physical environments, and our mindset environments. These are major issues and if we are to make any impact on our core problems we have to address our infrastructure as part of the overall solution.
I looked at resources, governmental, business, and other practical sources. The interesting thing I found was that there is a lot being done, it is simply not seeing any lasting change, for the greater community. We see limited successes, within pockets of communities, however, the core issues remain.
Blue42 was designed as a *Total Community strategy. It looks at crime, violence, bullying and terror, as our core targets. We look to impact the first five to fifteen minutes of any incident or event, through people, preparedness, best practices, and innovative products, with an intent of increasing the level of survivability for involved persons.
Research shows; it is within, the first five to fifteen minutes of an incident or event where the greatest loss of life takes place. Further to this; respective of emergency response times, it is within this same time period, where we will see primary and emergency responders arrive on scene.
I believe we can truly have a safer community, I also believe our deeds speak. Edmund Burke was quoted as stating, “The only thing required for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing”. Today I am asking you to join me in doing something!
After speaking with and presenting the Blue42 idea to many sources for funding, I was told that the strategy is simply too large for many organizations to take on. This is clearly reflective of the size of the problem we are facing. Taking this into consideration I have scaled the strategy down into several campaigns.
The first campaign I will be undertaking is an awareness strategy, I call “Take3″. Take3 Is about each of us within our local communities Taking a look, taking a stand, and taking action!
Blue42 is here, and we will progressively, systematically overcome the issues of crime, violence, bullying and terror, together!
